The “Scheletro Massiccio” is what remains of July 2nd, the day of the Festa della Madonna della Bruna, the day of the Matera festival.
The “Scheletro Massiccio” is a combination of the aura of the Madonna and the brute force of those who fight to tear off a piece of the Carro Trionfale, of which the “Scheletro” is the soul. It is a combination of the art of papier-mâché and the love of those who care for the mules that guide the Cart towards its destruction. On July 2nd, the protagonists of the Festa in onore di Maria SS della Bruna, protectress of the City of Matera, close the emotional circle of their existence in gestures that have been repeated for centuries and handed down orally to their children’s children.
