About Us

The genesis of the Basilicata Cultural Society of Canada began in the early 1980s with the creation of the Lucania Social Club. We owe much to the generosity and dedication of the numerous Lucanians who, through their commitment, started the Lucania Club in the early ’80s.

Fast forward to 2003. A number of executive members of the Basilicata Social Club, along with other Lucanians, proposed that the time had come to form a regional social and cultural organization, and thus the Basilicata Cultural Society of Canada was born.

During our short period of existence, we have made enormous strides in promoting our association and our socio-cultural objectives. The establishment of our center in Woodbridge is a testament to what we can achieve when we unite for a common goal. With the generous support of individuals and the Italian Cultural Institute, we have raised funds and awarded scholarships to students of Basilicata origin. We have sponsored various events, from culinary demonstrations to art exhibitions to theatrical productions. We cannot stop here. Much more remains to be accomplished.

Like many of you, I am the beneficiary of my parents’ sacrifices. Tens of thousands of people emigrated to Canada from the Basilicata region. We have made an enormous contribution to the social, economic, and cultural well-being of Canada. I truly believe that it is our duty not to forget those sacrifices and to embrace the values that make us so great.

I would like to take this opportunity not only to encourage you to become members of the Basilicata Cultural Society of Canada but also to take an active role in shaping the direction of this organization and positively impacting the lives of others in our community.
